What Are They Really Talking About?
Each generation gets labeled.
Too sensitive. Too selfish. Too stuck in their ways.
But the truth is, those labels don’t help us market better—or work better together.
In reality, every generation has something to teach us. And the brands that take time to understand what different age groups value are the ones building real connection (and real results) in 2025.
So, what are Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, and Boomers really talking about this year?
Social listening tools reveal what matters most—and what’s missing. Here’s what you need to know.

Gen Z
Born ~ 1997 to 2012
Digital natives with a mission.
They’ve never known a world without the internet. But don’t mistake their screen time for detachment—this generation is deeply values-driven. They expect brands to walk the talk and invite them in as participants, not just customers.
What they care about: mental health, social justice, self-expression, identity, transparency
Marketing insight: Create experiences they can engage with. Don’t just sell—start a conversation. Think community, collaboration, and cause-driven content.

Millennials
Born ~ 1981 to 1996
The bridge generation—juggling everything.
Millennials (or Gen Y) came of age during massive shifts: 9/11, the recession, the rise of social media. Now they’re raising kids, managing careers, and craving a little peace. They want marketing that respects their time and feels genuinely helpful.
What they care about: convenience, flexibility, personalization, emotional connection
Marketing insight: Be useful and sincere. Offer time-saving solutions, clear value, and a little humor or relatability never hurts.

Gen X
Born ~ 1965 to 1980
Independent, practical, and often overlooked.
They’re the ones running businesses, managing teams, and keeping things afloat—yet they’re rarely the focus of marketing efforts. Gen Xers value trust, logic, and long-term relationships.
What they care about: quality, efficiency, loyalty, privacy
Marketing insight: Ditch the hype. Focus on practical benefits, reliability, and long-term value. Make it easy to get answers and make informed decisions.

Baby Boomers
Born ~ 1946 to 1964
Experienced, engaged, and digitally active.
They may not chase the latest TikTok trend, but Boomers are still highly engaged online. They have spending power and loyalty—but they want clarity, service, and respect.
What they care about: value, customer service, clear communication, real-world relevance
Marketing insight: Simplify the experience. Be direct and easy to navigate. Don’t assume they’re not online—they are, and they’re paying attention.

One more thing. We need each other.
Generational stereotypes get clicks, but they don’t build brands.
What does?
Listening. Learning. Collaborating.
When we stop rolling our eyes at other generations and start leaning in, we find the magic:
- Boomers offer perspective
- Gen X brings steady leadership
- Millennials connect emotionally
- Gen Z drives change and new ideas
When your brand speaks with insight and empathy, it connects across generations—and that’s powerful.
