Celebrating 10 Years of JI Design and Small Business Growth

10 Years Bold

Ten years ago, I officially launched JI Design & Marketing.

But the story starts long before that—with a simple website called Jennifer’s Inspirations. Back then, I was just sharing things I made: jewelry, cakes, photography… whatever lit me up. That creative spark became JI Photography in 2005, and by 2015, it had evolved into the business you see today.

I had just left my role as Executive Director of the Sitka Chamber of Commerce after 4.5 years, unsure what was next. Then Sitka Community Hospital offered me a contract—and that was the push I needed. I jumped in.

Ten years later, JI Design has partnered with dozens of businesses and organizations across Alaska and beyond. We’ve had offices in Sitka, Tacoma, and Seattle. Today, we’re home-based, small by choice, and focused on meaningful work with people we truly believe in.

Clients Who Grew With Us

Some of our earliest clients are still with us today—and we’ve grown together.

We’ve worked with Samson Tug & Barge, Back Bay Botanicals, Sitka Community Land Trust, Weed Dudes, and The Cellar through years of evolution, new projects, and changing business needs. These partnerships are proof that when you invest in trust and consistency, it pays off—not just in results, but in relationships. And there have been so many more—each one adding to the story, the impact, and the reason we keep showing up.

We’ve worked with Jen since the very beginning of JI Design—and she’s been an essential part of our team ever since. Her design work is thoughtful, strategic, and always aligned with who we are as a company. She understands our industry, meets deadlines, and brings a level of professionalism that’s hard to find. We trust her completely.

We Kept Going Even When Life Got Hard

In August 2020, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

In May 2023, it came back.

Through both diagnoses, surgeries, and recoveries—I never shut JI Design down. That’s not to say it was easy. It wasn’t. But I kept the lights on. I kept showing up when I could. And when I couldn’t? My kids stepped in.

Both Krista and Caleb worked in the business. They handled clients, kept things running, and gave me space to heal. It wasn’t just about getting through it—it was about honoring what we’d built together.

Cancer stripped things down to the essentials. It forced me to get clear on what mattered most:
People. Purpose. Design with direction.

Evolving the Brand Without Losing Our Soul

This year, we launched our 2025 brand refresh—a visual and verbal update that feels more us than ever.

It’s clean, bold, intentional. Rooted in our core values: clarity, strategy, honesty, and creativity.

We’ve never been flashy. We don’t chase trends. We make design that works for real people doing real work.
Design that builds trust, solves problems, and stands the test of time.

What We've Learned in 10 Years

What’s Next for JI Design?

We’re not getting bigger—we’re getting better.

Refining our processes. Doubling down on clarity and strategy.

Krista is now a permanent part of the team. I’m more focused than ever on helping small-but-serious businesses grow with intention.

To Everyone Who’s Been Part of This... Thank You

Whether you’ve been here since day one or just found us recently, thank you.

For trusting us. For growing with us. For allowing us to be part of your story.

Here’s to ten years bold—and to whatever’s next.
